-We feel our missionaries are an intricate part of Island Baptist Church’s ministries. They are fulfilling the part of Matthew 28:19-20 that we cannot do. With God’s lead, our prayers and financial support help them to share the “Good News” and bring glory to Him.
-The Tuesday Morning Baptist Women meet in this church, every other week at 9:30am beginning in October and ends with the Mother/Daughter Luncheon in May. This is a Bible study group with questions and answers, discussion and sharing of personal experiences. A time of fellowship that is open to all ladies in the community.
-“Baptist Men” is our Men’s ministry here at Island Baptist Church. This ministry is centered around bringing the men of the Kingdom together in the Spirit of God, God’s Holy Word, and brotherly love. We are focused on coming closer to Christ as our Lord, and our Shepherd; through the leading of the Spirit, building each other up into the biblical leaders that God the Father has ordained all men to be in Scripture. We gather to pray on Sunday mornings as well, knowing that there is immeasurable power in the prayer of a righteous person (James 5:16). All men are encouraged to join us in our walk with Christ, and we pray for you to be a part of the Kingdom of God. They meet each Tuesday Evening at 7pm.
“We Love Our Seniors” Ministry
-This is a ministry that was started to care for the elderly and all those in the nursing homes and rehabs who need to know that others really love and care for them.We have involved our church body by placing a container in the fellowship hall for anyone wanting to help, but can’t go. We ask for them to bring snacks for the residents. Others can be our prayer warriors. We visit 3-4 nursing homes down south on the first Thursday of each month, and the third Thursday we go north to two or three homes. On the fourth Thursday we take our “local” widows and widowers out to lunch. We also try to make home visits if one of our own church members are shut in.
“With These Hands”
-This is open to all women of the church that are interested in knitting and crocheting. They will use this fun activity to make various things for our local nursing homes, pregnancy centers, etc. They meet at the church every Monday night at 6:30 and would love to see you there! “She stretcheth out her hand to the poor, yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.”- Proverbs 31:30
Island Kids Choir
-The Island Kids Choir is for ages four through 5th grade, and they meet on Wednesday Evenings at 7:00 pm upstairs. They learn songs of worship that praise our Lord, and they also participate in our worship services, singing the songs they’ve learned. They also have snacks, games, and fun learning more about the Lord.
-Ages 6th grade through 12th grade, they learn and sing the modern worship songs of our generation, and praise the Lord through these songs. They also meet on Wednesday Evenings at 7:00 pm and enjoy singing, snacks, fun, and learning more about Jesus. Led by Jessica McCready and Michael Holloway.
-We practice every Sunday evening at 6:00pm. We are a very close group that helps and encourages each other, both musically and spiritually. As our leader, Bonnie McCready, says, “Without the members of our choir, and their faithfulness and dedication, we would not have a choir, and I am so thankful for them”. We are so very thankful for Bonnie and her dedication as well.
-Our praise team consists of normal, everyday people, that have a desire to praise the Lord through song, and to also lead our congregation on a weekly basis to worship the Lord with us. We none are perfect, but God does not expect perfection. He just asks for our best. And that is exactly what we do. We pray that God will use us to draw others closer to Him.
Youth Group (grades 6-12)
-We meet each Sunday evening at 6:30 to study God’s word and encourage each other- and we eat and play games too! We are an active group within our church and participate in several outreach ministries throughout the year.
Media and Radio Ministry
-We strive to enhance the worship service the best that we can. We provide wireless headphones for those who have a harder time hearing, so that they don’t miss a single thing during our services. We also record our services to CD, duplicate them, and mail them out to those who are unable to attend our services. We broadcast our services on Chincoteague’s own radio station, WOW 99.3 at 10:00 A.M. on Sunday mornings (You will hear the previous week’s service). New to our media and radio ministry, we are now able to live stream our Sunday Morning worship service on Facebook Live! Check out our Audio and Social Media page for more information!
